Last Friday, the ladies of Duo PR decked the halls of an Eastside estate to celebrate the season!
After using the day to wrap presents for our YWCA family and battle it out over our own White Elephant gifts, we were all treated to hair, makeup and massages, before our plus ones joined us for seven decadent courses from Sharone Hakman, of MasterChef fame. The night was full of side-splitting laughs, amazing food (fried truffle mac & cheese balls, no joke) and fierce table competitions.
It’s safe to say, Duo knows how to throw – and enjoy – a holiday party. Let the 2012 countdown begin.
Happiest of Holidays, from all of us at Duo!
The holidays have a way of coming and going so quickly that we spend the first week of the New Year saying, “Next Christmas, I’m definitely doing/going/seeing…”
This year, don’t put it off!
The good folks at Ivar’s Acres of Clams and the Woodmark in Kirkland have a bevy of holiday events that will leave you with memorable photo keepsakes or give you a chance to sip tea with the Man in Red himself. Find out more about the events below:
Pose with Ivar’s Santa Clam at Ivar’s Acres of Clams (Pier 54, 1001 Alaskan Way). Ivar’s famous oversized Clam will be dressed in Santa garb for children and families to snap a fishy holiday photo. Santa Clam appears Dec. 3, 10 and 17, from 12 to 3 p.m.
Santa Photos with Woody Sunday, December 11, 10 a.m. to noon. Join Woody for pet photos with Santa and get the perfect family photo with your furry friend snapped by Best of Northwest’s Bailey and Banjo. Suggested donations of $20 per pet will benefit the National Canine Cancer Foundation. Don’t forget to have Fido in his best dressed! http://woodyssantaphoto.eventbrite.com/
Woodmark’s third annual Holiday Tea Saturday, December 10, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Come savor tasty treats and scrumptious holiday sweets while sipping an assortment of teas and hot cocoa. Cheryl Serio and Hans Brimmer of the Kirkland Performance Center will be on hand to provide festive holiday music. Little ones will love our holiday cookie decorating station, and of course, visiting with Santa! ($45/adult, $20 children). http://santatea.eventbrite.com/
We’ve never had our fellow tenants of the Kolstrand Building flock to our third-floor office so promptly and in so many numbers, as when we sent an e-mail invite with the subject line, “Join Us for a Whisky Tasting.”
Last week, graced with unexpected sunshine, we converted the Duo deck into a speakeasy and were joined by the master distiller and operator of the soon-to-open Westland Distillery. They brought their flagship single-malt (coming to you and grcoery shelves in 2013) to be tasted alongside Scotch and Japanese variations to compare and contrast.
Giving us all a much needed education in their craft, we swirled, sniffed and knocked back a few samples of their caramelly-smooth flagship whisky. Thanks to everyone who climbed the stairs to join us, and our gracious spirits professors, Steve and Emerson.
Cheers!
Note: Post title is intended to be sang to the tune of Miley Cyrus 2010 hit, “Party in the U.S.A.,” for full effect.
Once again, Duo eagerly teamed up with Facebook to throw the annual “Thank You” party for the social media powerhouse’s Seattle VIPs, and this year’s bash at Utina Wardroom may have been the best yet.
With a drool-worthy menu of small bites, a whiskey tasting bar and a two-part performance from local rapper Mike Champoux (not to mention a life-sized Jenga game and late night pizza run!), the packed house party kept everyone well fueled and on the dance floor.
Cheers to another success and to all who attended, see you next year!
Join the Duo crew in celebrating Jumbo Jenga Friday! Everybody deserves some office fun.
It’s getting to be that time of year in Seattle where you wake up to gray skies, have your windshield wipers on full force for the commute, and spend your brief time outdoors dodging rain bullets. The saddest part? We have six plus months of this to look forward to.
With a bleak forecast ahead, it’s the perfect time to reminisce about that “heat wave” we had in August where it topped 80 degrees for nearly seven days in row – yup, you heard us, a whole week!
Here’s how Team Duo spent one afternoon, cruising the Ballard ‘hood on the “Octo-Bike,” courtesy of our neighbors at Dutch Bike Co. (Disclaimer: the Octo-Bike has only seven seats and is actually called the Conference Bike. Needless to say, we didn’t know this and there were eight of intermittently rotating among seven seats and a ride-the-pegs “lookout post.”)
From the Duo office, along Shilshole Ave., through Fred Meyer parking lot, to Hale’s Ales and back, here’s the evidence of our journey.
The Washington State Fruit Commission worked with an all-star lineup of bloggers last month to promote the art of preserving fruit and the dedicated website SweetPreservation.com. The “Canbassadors” were sent a shipment of peak of season Washington stone fruit – including peaches, plums and apricots – that they brought into their kitchen to work some canning magic. Read about their delicious adventures below and get inspired to join the Canvolution!
Hip Girl’s Guide to Homemaking
Gathered at Within Sodo on Tuesday night, a cluster of Seattle’s social media enthusiasts were atwitter – literally. The glow of smartphones filled the room and spilled onto the rooftop deck, as social media mavens chatted and live tweeted at this month’s SMC (Social Media Club) event. Sponsored by Votocracy and Google Places, the meet up was sold out and members of team Duo were lucky enough to snag some tickets.
After noshing on BBQ, the crowd took to the auditorium to hear the evening’s emcee sit down with Kathy Savitt, past Amazon exec and current Lockerz CEO, and discuss ‘Buying, Selling, and Sharing with Gen Z.’ For the record, it’s OK, many in the audience didn’t know what Lockerz or Gen Z was either before the Q & A.
The gist of the evening was the disruptive consumptive behavior of kids these days (aka Gen Z) and the ongoing challenge of brands to “own” customers like they used to. Kathy Savitt has built her career on this complete paradigm shift from past generations and gave the audience a fascinating sneak peek how Gen Z operates.
It’s a brave new world of social media and, heads up Gen X and Y, we’re no longer dictating it.
